Reading – Period 1

Book Title:  Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

The theme song that I chose for my character is “Times Like These” by The Foo Fighters.  The reason I chose this song for the main character, Sam, is because she learns an extremely valuable lesson about life due to a tragedy she experiences in the beginning of the book.  After this incident occurs, she is never going to be the same.  She has to find a way to live in this world with the knowledge that she has not been a kind person in her lifetime and her words and actions do have an impact on others.  With this new lease on life, she goes about trying to set things right.  For this reason I chose, “Times Like These” because of the following lyrics; “it’s time like these you learn to live again…it’s times like these you give and give again… I’m a new day rising, I’m a brand new sky…”  I think these lyrics reflect Sam’s new outlook on life and her reflection on the mistakes she has made as well as her desire to make it all okay.
